If you need a small welder.., this is it !!

0 5/5 Allen - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Hobart 500559 Handler Wire Welder (Tools & Home Improvement) Just recently bought this welder to do an auto project I have. I have searched for over 4 months to find the best one for the buck and since I work at a auto shop, and they use this to do exhaust work, it was the obvious choice to make. It took a couple of days to get it set up correctly. I am extremely new at welding. After setting it up and trying it out, I will say this welder welds like a champ. Heck, it even made me look like a pro. I would say read the directions..carefully !!. There is alot of tips and must-need-to-know info in them. And for the price that was offered here, you can't beat it. If you want a 110v welder.., don't even hesitate. BUY THIS WELDER !!! 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , March 5, 2013

0 5/5 go-dwr - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Hobart 500559 Handler Wire Welder (Tools & Home Improvement) Hobart makes a good welder is why I choose this unit. It is only 110 volt but is fine for the smaller projects that I do. This model 500559 Handler 140 is the upgrade to the Handler 140 model 500500 which gives you a bigger opening ground clamp and a metal gear on the drive motor. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , January 30, 2013

1 of the top 10 welders in 2013 no doubt

0 5/5 brenton - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Hobart 500559 Handler Wire Welder (Tools & Home Improvement) Ive been welding for 10 years at work and at buddy's houses but never wanted to break down and purchase my own. Well the day came where I needed one and I wanted one I could throw in my car and take anywhere and plug in anywhere. I read alot about the best of the best for my needs 1/4 inch thick mild steel max. So after much debate I purchased this little beast and let me tell you this thing kicks my buddy's miller 140 butt. Im not sure why we are both using the .35 fluxcored lincoln wire but his seems to bog down when actually welding and this bad boy stays strong. Im imppresed and very happy with my purchase. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , May 28, 2013

Awesome welder for the at home jobs

I am not a professional welder. I have a project at home that would have cost me in the thousands to have done elsewhere. So, I thought I would get a welder and teach myself. There are tons of Youtube movies out there showing how to do gas-less welding. Check them out if your new to the whole process.Ok now for this welder. I can only say that there is some great quality behind this product. Every detail from the drive motor to the tip is well above what you would expect at a product at this price-point.Pros:+ Makes very strong welds at a measly 110v+ Excellent drive pushes the wire easily and evenly+ Quality materials, fit and finish (knobs and switches feel as though they will last).+ Great welds by a complete amateur means this product is A+ quality.+ Hobart is owned by Miller ( the gun has Miller on the grip).+ American MadeCons: (these are tiny nags)- Spend a little more and get the one with the gas... 5/5 Geekdomo "GeekDomo" (127.0.0.1) - See all my reviews, April 1, 2011

    Surpassed my EXPECTATIONS

I needed a welder I could use with my standard house electricity. I don't have a 220 volt plug. I searched around only wanting to spend $90 or maybe $150. Well after reading and reviewing many many welders, I knew I needed to buy one that was a bit better. I ran across this one, and it all sounded good to me. I did about a week more of checking around, and then decided to go for it. I was wondering how they were going to ship a welder, but sure enough they delivered it very quickly. I was excited to open it up... and feeding the wire in it was not as difficult as I would have imagined. It just takes a little brain power. Setting the tension took me about 8 minutes, and I adjusted it pretty accurately the first go around. The time came to weld. I was expecting a little arch and I was expecting it to sputter. Boy was I in for a surprise. It welded almost the freaking same as my fathers hobart 220 volt $800 welder! I was astonished. I was blown away. Nice home welder

I read some reviews on this model and had some concern about the quality of this welder. I've read that Hobart purchased Miller's AutoArc and rebadged it under their name. It makes little difference to me because this welder is great. Set up is easy and it does exactly what it says it will do. I have welded 1/4 inch with this machine using a double pass technique, however, the machine will overheat if you have a lot of welding at 1/4.I weld a ton of stuff with 1/8 wall and it does a great job. I've built a squat rack, lat pull down machine, front receiver hitch (1/4 inch wall), rear reciver hitch rack, bicycle stand, ladder rack, steps for my garage, step rails for my truck, and other small projects without any issues with this welder. I'm very pleased with this unit and fully encourage folks to buy one for their home shop.I don't use sheilding gas when welding; only use flux core. Great out of box experience

I usually TIG weld aluminum, but I wanted to weld thicker/larger pieces faster. To MIG weld aluminum requires spray transfer, and 200 amps is about the bottom end for thicker pieces. The Hobart 210 MVP with the addition of the SpoolRunner 100 spool gun welds 1/4 inch aluminum like lightning! I can weld in a 1/4 of the time of TIG. No stack of dimes look, but nice smooth fully penetrated welds. The MVP 110/220v feature makes this a good light duty flux-core field welder also (although it does weigh 75 lbs, so I wouldn't want to hand-carry it daily). For occational field welding, I throw it in the truck and go! (140 amps at 110v, 210 amps at 220v).Now I can use my TIG for what it's best at, heat control on thin material.I also contemplated buying the Miller 211 MVP with Autoset. I tried the Autoset feature at the local college on two seperate Miller 210's, and was unimpressed. Ended up just simply setting the volts and wire-speed manually. The Miller... 5/5 Scott (Technogeek) (Coastal Southern California) - See all my reviews, August 26, 2012

    Superb Little Wire-feed Welder

I've been welding/fabricating for over thirty years. I've always had Lincoln welders in my shop. Industrial grade, 100 percent duty cycle, an Idealarc SP-200 mig welder and an Idealarc 300 tig welder. I also had a small 115 volt Lincoln mig welder that I bought at Home Depot years ago, a WeldPak 3200. I ran .035 flux-core through it and it worked fine with that. When I was forced to leave my shop some years ago when the property owner sadly passed away I sold all my large equipment and dragged what remained home to my garage. The little Lincoln 3200 I kept. Recently I landed some fabricating work that demanded changing my set-up to hard-wire and shielding gas. So I bought a bottle of 75/25 Argon/CO2 mix, changed the polarity, etc. and finished the job. But I never could get that little Lincoln to run as nice as my old industrial machines. I wasn't welding really thick material, just .095 and .120 tubing, and similar flatbar.Anyway....the job's done, I get paid, and I'm... 5/5 D. Great for a newbie/harry homeowner

A couple of years ago, I decided to learn to weld ... it was just something I've always wanted to learn.I started with Stick (SMAW), because of the low cost to get started.Spent about a year and a half learning ... am now pretty decent at it.I'd been told that MIG is much easier, and I knew that to weld Aluminum, or thinner stock, it was the way to go.I wanted to buy one welder that would be capable of anything that I might want to do now, or in the future.I chose this welder because of the choice in input voltage (convenient, since I can use it anywhere), the fact that it is set up to accept an affordable spool gun, and the heat range: on the low side, it'll weld pretty thin material, on the high side, it'll weld anything I might reasonable expect to tackle.I'm sure that this machine is an excellent one for the experienced/professional welder. I'll let the other reviewers tell you that that is the case, as I am not remotely qualified... 5/5 David Carswell (DC Metro Area) - See all my reviews, October 28, 2013

0 5/5 john d stroud - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Hobart 500536 Ironman 230 250 Amp MIG Welder With Wheel Kit & Cylinder Rack (Tools & Home Improvement) I replaced a welder that I was well satisfied with, but I had owned for over 20 years. I just thought it was time to replace it, but a similar welder of the same brand as I had was several hundred dollars higher. I was a little reluctant to change brands, but the price on the Hobart was hard to beat so I took a chance and I'm glad I did. Maybe it is new technology, or maybe it is just a great welder, anyway it has exceeded my expectations. It welds smooth, and fills gaps without burning through. If I had changed to a different brand, or type, of welding wire, I would suspect that had something to do with the amazing difference, but I pulled the roll of wire from the old welder and installed it in the new one, so it has to be the machine quality that makes the difference. This was only my second purchase from Amazon, but both experiences have been great. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , March 23, 2013

It delivers 30-250 amps of pure power in a heavy duty cabinet.
The arc of the new IronMan 230 is optimized to deliver a flawless weld, making spatter and post-weld cleanup almost non-existent.
The IronMan 230 is a total redesign of the full-size MIG platform, outperforming the competition on arc quality, voltage control, duty cycle and value

Good wire feed consistency the regulator works great and it has plenty of power. I've welded 1/2 a36 with full penetration. The spool runner is also great, remember you will need a different shielding gas for aluminum than for steel. Only complaint is the ground clamp was a little cheap. The suggested settings on the machine for all materials are "close". I also found the spoolrunner a very well designed and high quality piece, but read the instructions!!! So far it is working great, easy to use, no problems encountered. Can't say much about the weld quality, but that is the operator, not the equipment. When i actually do it right, the welds look very nice. i haven't tried aluminum yet, I've just been working on a welding table from mild steel. I also have a Hobart Handler 210 with the spool gun for aluminum but wanted to get away from the spatter and have nice clean welds. Aluminum so far has been a challenge. After a few days of practice and getting a different tungsten for the gun and smaller filler rod it has gotten better. After watching a few videos and reading some online forums I'm learning how to weld aluminum much better and I think this machine will be everything I was hoping it would be. Nice machine, but I wish the leads were detachable. Overall, love it! 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , March 23, 2012

The controls make setup a breeze. It's also a very light unit, at least compared to my Hobart Handler 187, which weighs a ton. The actual TIG welding isn't easy, but this is true of any unit. The only downside is that it only comes with a 3/32" collet and collet body. If you're using 1/16", 0.040", or 0.20" electrodes, you'll need to order these separately. Hobart 500421 Stickmate LX 235 AC/DC

First of all the price along with the free shipping is the best I've seen. It arrived very quickly, several days before the expected delivery date. However it did sustain some cosmetic damage in shipping. It was obviously dropped at least once and the box was pretty rough looking by the time I recieved it. I decided I could live with the cosmetic stuff and didn't go to the point of reporting it. I think you almost have to expect some kind of damage in shipping considering the weight, 120 lbs.delivered to your door by some poor UPS guy. Anyway, aside from that, the unit looks pretty good. I fired it up and ran a few beads with 7018 and 6011 rod and it worked beautifully. In my opinion just as well if not better than the older model miller thunderbolt 225/150 ac/dc unit I'd been recently using. The front mounted switch to change from ac to dc seems to be of good quality. Though the plastic crank handle for adjusting the amperage seems a little flimsy. I opend the cover to look... 4/5 M. Outstanding SMAW Welder for Light Industrial and Homeowner Fabrication / Repairs!

I purchased this welder to replace a cheap Harbor Freight unit that I overworked and killed. (It was not very well built to say the least) So after scouring the internet for information I settled on this unit and purchased it locally. The quality of the welds that I made improved immediately. Granted I consider myself an amateur at best, the difference between the Hobart and Harbor Freight unit was night and day. Rarely do I ever have to exceed 100A output DC for the majority of my work so the 20% duty cycle is not a concern. If you do lots of welding with electrodes greater than 1/8" you probably should consider a higher output unit such as the Miller Thunderbolt 300/200 or larger.Final Thoughts...You wont be disappointed in a quality USA Made product. The internals are very well built, although I would have rather seen copper windings on the transformer (they're aluminum) given the current cost of copper I can live with that.A few things that are... 5/5 Zachary N Metzinger (Richardson, TX United States) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Hobart 500421 Stickmate LX 235 AC Stick (SMAW) Arc Welding Power Source (Tools & Home Improvement) I purchased this welder after being somewhat frustrated with the HF inverter-type welder I originally invested in. The difference is night and day. No more rod sticks and buttery-smooth welding. I installed a 6-50R receptacle (from HD), fed it with a 50A breaker and about 5' of 6 AWG wire. Runs like a champ! Now, the downsides (two of 'em): Crappy electrode holder and stamped sheet-metal ground clamp. C'mon Hobart .. really? I just plunked down $500 and you give me a 50 cent ground clamp? As an example, I ran this welder up to its maximum output of 235A to try out some ESAB 8013-SR 3/16th rod (which worked just fine). After about 3 rods worth of test-runs, I removed the ground clamp from the opposite (cold) end of the channel stock I was welding on and noticed that the stamped, serrated ground teeth were discolored due to heating. Do yourself a favor and replace the ground clamp with this... Read more Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , May 31, 2010
