If you need a small welder.., this is it !!

0 5/5 Allen - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Hobart 500559 Handler Wire Welder (Misc.) Just recently bought this welder to do an auto project I have. I have searched for over 4 months to find the best one for the buck and since I work at a auto shop, and they use this to do exhaust work, it was the obvious choice to make. It took a couple of days to get it set up correctly. I am extremely new at welding. After setting it up and trying it out, I will say this welder welds like a champ. Heck, it even made me look like a pro. I would say read the directions..carefully !!. There is alot of tips and must-need-to-know info in them. And for the price that was offered here, you can't beat it. If you want a 110v welder.., don't even hesitate. BUY THIS WELDER !!! 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , March 5, 2013

0 5/5 go-dwr - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Hobart 500559 Handler Wire Welder (Misc.) Hobart makes a good welder is why I choose this unit. It is only 110 volt but is fine for the smaller projects that I do. This model 500559 Handler 140 is the upgrade to the Handler 140 model 500500 which gives you a bigger opening ground clamp and a metal gear on the drive motor. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , January 30, 2013

0 5/5 BMXER "maxmetal" (nc usa) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Hobart 500559 Handler Wire Welder (Misc.) I have owned many welding machines 110 units and larger. For the dollar this is a great welder! No plastic ,only hot when you pull the trigger and a pretty consistent weld. I had the same size unit except Miller and it cost $300 dollars more. I would purchase this machine again. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , June 20, 2013

    Superb Little Wire-feed Welder

I've been welding/fabricating for over thirty years. I've always had Lincoln welders in my shop. Industrial grade, 100 percent duty cycle, an Idealarc SP-200 mig welder and an Idealarc 300 tig welder. I also had a small 115 volt Lincoln mig welder that I bought at Home Depot years ago, a WeldPak 3200. I ran .035 flux-core through it and it worked fine with that. When I was forced to leave my shop some years ago when the property owner sadly passed away I sold all my large equipment and dragged what remained home to my garage. The little Lincoln 3200 I kept. Recently I landed some fabricating work that demanded changing my set-up to hard-wire and shielding gas. So I bought a bottle of 75/25 Argon/CO2 mix, changed the polarity, etc. and finished the job. But I never could get that little Lincoln to run as nice as my old industrial machines. I wasn't welding really thick material, just .095 and .120 tubing, and similar flatbar.Anyway....the job's done, I get paid, and I'm... 5/5 D. Great out of box experience

I usually TIG weld aluminum, but I wanted to weld thicker/larger pieces faster. To MIG weld aluminum requires spray transfer, and 200 amps is about the bottom end for thicker pieces. The Hobart 210 MVP with the addition of the SpoolRunner 100 spool gun welds 1/4 inch aluminum like lightning! I can weld in a 1/4 of the time of TIG. No stack of dimes look, but nice smooth fully penetrated welds. The MVP 110/220v feature makes this a good light duty flux-core field welder also (although it does weigh 75 lbs, so I wouldn't want to hand-carry it daily). For occational field welding, I throw it in the truck and go! (140 amps at 110v, 210 amps at 220v).Now I can use my TIG for what it's best at, heat control on thin material.I also contemplated buying the Miller 211 MVP with Autoset. I tried the Autoset feature at the local college on two seperate Miller 210's, and was unimpressed. Ended up just simply setting the volts and wire-speed manually. Great for a newbie/harry homeowner

A couple of years ago, I decided to learn to weld ... it was just something I've always wanted to learn.I started with Stick (SMAW), because of the low cost to get started.Spent about a year and a half learning ... am now pretty decent at it.I'd been told that MIG is much easier, and I knew that to weld Aluminum, or thinner stock, it was the way to go.I wanted to buy one welder that would be capable of anything that I might want to do now, or in the future.I chose this welder because of the choice in input voltage (convenient, since I can use it anywhere), the fact that it is set up to accept an affordable spool gun, and the heat range: on the low side, it'll weld pretty thin material, on the high side, it'll weld anything I might reasonable expect to tackle.I'm sure that this machine is an excellent one for the experienced/professional welder. I'll let the other reviewers tell you that that is the case, as I am not remotely qualified... 5/5 David Carswell (DC Metro Area) - See all my reviews, October 28, 2013

    Hobart 500421 Stickmate LX 235 AC/DC

First of all the price along with the free shipping is the best I've seen. It arrived very quickly, several days before the expected delivery date. However it did sustain some cosmetic damage in shipping. It was obviously dropped at least once and the box was pretty rough looking by the time I recieved it. I decided I could live with the cosmetic stuff and didn't go to the point of reporting it. I think you almost have to expect some kind of damage in shipping considering the weight, 120 lbs.delivered to your door by some poor UPS guy. Anyway, aside from that, the unit looks pretty good. I fired it up and ran a few beads with 7018 and 6011 rod and it worked beautifully. In my opinion just as well if not better than the older model miller thunderbolt 225/150 ac/dc unit I'd been recently using. The front mounted switch to change from ac to dc seems to be of good quality. Though the plastic crank handle for adjusting the amperage seems a little flimsy. I opend the cover to look... 4/5 M. Outstanding SMAW Welder for Light Industrial and Homeowner Fabrication / Repairs!

I purchased this welder to replace a cheap Harbor Freight unit that I overworked and killed. (It was not very well built to say the least) So after scouring the internet for information I settled on this unit and purchased it locally. The quality of the welds that I made improved immediately. Granted I consider myself an amateur at best, the difference between the Hobart and Harbor Freight unit was night and day. Rarely do I ever have to exceed 100A output DC for the majority of my work so the 20% duty cycle is not a concern. If you do lots of welding with electrodes greater than 1/8" you probably should consider a higher output unit such as the Miller Thunderbolt 300/200 or larger.Final Thoughts...You wont be disappointed in a quality USA Made product. The internals are very well built, although I would have rather seen copper windings on the transformer (they're aluminum) given the current cost of copper I can live with that.A few things that are... 5/5 Zachary N Metzinger (Richardson, TX United States) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Good wire feed consistency the regulator works great and it has plenty of power. I've welded 1/2 a36 with full penetration. The spool runner is also great, remember you will need a different shielding gas for aluminum than for steel. Only complaint is the ground clamp was a little cheap. Easily replaced for about 30 dollars. though. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , December 1, 2012

Hobart Handler 190+ isBest Value In the Market

I bought this Hobart 190 Handler with Spool Runner 100 to ugrade from my small 130Amp mig welder of a different prominent blue colored brand of welder. The difference was night and day!I started out on an aluminum MIG welding project. I had never done Aluminum before and I found the spoolrunner very easy to use for even a beginner, and the performance and weld quality was good after I wrked with it for awhile. The suggested settings on the machine for all materials are "close". I also found the spoolrunner a very well designed and high quality piece, but read the instructions!!! Seriously. The best part (even better than the spool gun) is the steel welding capability. This is the night and day part. The very first steel bead I layed with this machine was the best weld bead I had ever put down in my life. The suggested settings were PERFECT. The wirefeed stability is PERFECT. 0 5/5 Magellan "snakehips" (Georgia, USA) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Hobart 500550 Auto Arc 130 Wire Feed MIG Welding Kit (Tools & Home Improvement) This is an excellent deal on a quality homeowner welder. The gas kit is a good thing to have, but the helmet and especially the cart are of dubious value. The cart is just too low and dinky. The included helmet is fine for an extra, but too dark to use inside. I'll save it to allow someone who wants to observe use.The welder itself is made by Miller/Hobart, and is made in the U.S.A. It is high-powered for a 130 amp model. I feel this is a very conservative rating. The welder comes ready to weld with fluxcore wire. The cart has space for and a safety chain for tank. I thing an 80 cu. ft. tank will fix nicely. I'll probably alter the cart and add another shelf above the two that are there. The regulator is another U.S.A. product and seems to be of great quality. It also comes with additional .030 contact tips and a nozzle. The gun is rather short at 8'. I am happy with my purchase. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , January 29, 2011

It seems anyone worth their salt has a Miller or a Hobart.

I bought this from Amazon warehouse deals for $344 overnighted to my house.A+ for amazon.got it out of the box, immediately spent 20 minutes putting the car together.. its a cart. nothing special, but I havent had any problems it it at all. if it gets wobbly later, I will just weld it all together.moving on to the welder its self, the unit is superbly sturdy and looks nice. the included wire is flux core which I deem the anti-christ and would only use on out-door or other not important welds. I immedeately went to my local welding supply store, got a spool of .030 alloy steel wire and a cylinder of Argon CO2 mix, popped on a new groung clamp and tested it out on some spare 1/8" steel.the welds are BEAUTIFUL. this unit honestly does the job as well as by friend's Handler 140. the machine has plenty of power to penetrate 1/8" steel and get a nice, consistent weld.I welded a but joint 8" and the machine, even at the highest... 5/5 Erik A. A wealder that does its job.

DuroStar made a great portable welder/generator. When I first got it, it was delivered by FEDEX on a pallet. It requires that "some assembly required" type deals where you put things like, Wheels, handles, support legs, and air in the tires. But not only that, the battery you see on the picture here, DuroStar did not supply a ground wire to make a connection for the ignition start. So I had to make one. Note: Make sure that some of the coating on the frame is bare for the ground wire to work, there is a small hole to bolt it to it. The generator also comes with two plug-ends for the welder, one positive, one negative, but DuroStar did not supply the line feed or the clamps either. So I had to go to my near-by hardware store and buy 20 ft of line and two claps for it. Note: The clerk will ask you what size the line is, tell him its a size two. So just when you think that I'm done, the company gave me metric round-over nuts that didn't go all the way in cause the threads where to long... 4/5 V. So far it is working great, easy to use, no problems encountered. Can't say much about the weld quality, but that is the operator, not the equipment. When i actually do it right, the welds look very nice. i haven't tried aluminum yet, I've just been working on a welding table from mild steel. I also have a Hobart Handler 210 with the spool gun for aluminum but wanted to get away from the spatter and have nice clean welds. Aluminum so far has been a challenge. After a few days of practice and getting a different tungsten for the gun and smaller filler rod it has gotten better. After watching a few videos and reading some online forums I'm learning how to weld aluminum much better and I think this machine will be everything I was hoping it would be. Nice machine, but I wish the leads were detachable. Overall, love it! 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , March 23, 2012

The actual TIG welding isn't easy, but this is true of any unit. The only downside is that it only comes with a 3/32" collet and collet body. If you're using 1/16", 0.040", or 0.20" electrodes, you'll need to order these separately. The dual voltage plug is the main reason I bought this model, & I couldn't be more pleased. I use a Harbor Freight inline disposable drier cartridge. For about $6 & lasts at least an hour of cutting. I also use 1/4" MDF for making templates. This is a "Cool Tool". 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , April 8, 2011

It goes through sheet metal like nothing, as fast as you can drag the wand. I made precision cuts in 14-gauge mild steel on the very first try. It also sliced through 3/8" steel with no effort. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , February 23, 2013
