About this book
Today, with a bit of investment and practice, farmers can safely and efficiently make their own repairs to metal equipment and structures. Farm Welding begins with chapters on setting up a home shop specifically for farm-welding needs, as well as welding safety and the different welding processes. While the book is largely devoted to oxyacetylene gas and arc welding, the methods most often used for heavy-duty repairs and fabrication on the farm, wire-feed MIG welding for soft metals is also covered.

0 5/5 Carey Netherton - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Pro-Grade Ultra-Portable 100-Amp Electric Arc Welder - 110V (Misc.) I am a metal sculptor with twenty years of experience welding. I recently bought one of these machines on a whim. I needed a cheap way to weld parts together quickly. I did not know what to expect, but thought it worth a try. Without a doubt it was a great investment. I have used the unit quite a bit and have found it to be a real trooper. The one weakness I have found is that it has a short duty cycle. If I want to run a 2 foot long bead, where I am constantly going (at about 60amps) and burning through sticks, it will put itself in cooldown mode after about a foot. But I am cool with that and now know what it can and can't do. Just weld a bit and then step away for 5 mins. I really like the variable amp adjustment a lot- I can really fine tune things in to the way I want.A great addition to my studio without a doubt. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , May 18, 2011

Longevity Weldstick 140 DC Arc Welder

I bought this welder in July,2013. It was delivered on schedule and I used it for a few hours, worked fine. In the middle of Sept. I went to use it and the controls would not hold. The amp adjustment knob would say 70 and the read out was 50 and stayed 20 amps off when turned. I set it on 70 on the read out but it was more like 100amp finally got it to weld a smooth bead at 30 amps read out using a 3/32 7018. The second rod I had to set the control at 50 to start then stop and turn it down again.A few warnings if thinking about buying any Longevity Welder thru Amazone because they reduce the warranty from 5 yrs to one year. You pay shipping both ways which from North Carolina amounted to $120. They are not responsible if the item is lost either. The other thing is you can not register it to Longevity without asking them for a ID number because the invoice you receive from Amazone will not show up on their records. So for a 220 dollar welder used 2 times I will have to either fix... 1/5 Leo - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Excellent machine!

First off, I did not purchase this welder at amazon. I picked this up at my local Lowe's. Same machine. The welder itself is built very well, and I have not even had it shut off once on me while I have been welding. It is also very small and portable; you can take it just about anywhere you want. The only problem is that you can only produce so much current from a standard household outlet! Because of this, it is critical that the work piece is as clean as possible. When the work piece is clean, the amps are set right, the right welding rod is used, and you have had enough practice unless you have already learned to weld like I had before I bought this, it produces rather pretty welds for such a small machine. It did a really pretty job on my homemade go-kart, and that was 1/4" steel. Down to the point, this welder is just about as good as it gets for one that can plug into a standard outlet.Tips:Get a decent welding hood...the hand shield will work for other people... 5/5 Lil' Johnny - See all my reviews This review is from: Campbell Hausfeld WS0990 115-Volt Stick Welder (Tools & Home Improvement) First off, I did not purchase this welder at amazon. Welder Amazing

First welding is art and skill, both generally need practice.I have 20 amp breakers, 12gauge wiring and outlets rated for 20 amps. Check it all 4 times. i use a 12 gauge extention cord the coord on the welder is short and the leads aren't any longer. that being said, i spent hours working on high running about 2 lbs of rod, and no heat from the welder cord or extention cord. This and a 12 gauge extention cord makes a really compact welder that can get out and be used, the weight is about 20lbs, easy one handed. it's smaller and lighter than the tool box i lug around the house, so portablilty is excelent i regularly use it in the yard, driveway, garage. my lights and welder are on the same circuit, no issues so more or less the "high" setting is probly using around 15 amps, and the low less then 10. don't be afraid of having other things on the circuit.Get some 6013, and practice that on low, don't touch high. then when you can strike an arc consistantly gets... 5/5 James Stallings "Hacker and tinker" (Virginia) - See all my reviews, February 19, 2013

Figured the 100 would be a good try to save 300 for a new blade. I agree with the others, the sticks it came with would not strike 50% of the time. Frustrated I went to Youtube. After a 10 minutes of browsing I tried it again with the rods I bought ( 1/16 6013 )Welds were horrible, to start. 30 min later they were better. An hour later they resembled actual welds. Day 2 was better, I was able to take some 1/8 inch steel and weld it onto the back and sturdy it up.OverallI bought new Rods and a better maskPRACTICE!!! Two days and I am confident with throwing a couple pieces together and am sure it will hold.FAR BETTER THAN A NEW PLOW BLADE 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , October 26, 2013

Great TIG at a great price with plenty of room to grow

I've been using a Clarke MIG welder for quite some time and after trying a couple high end Miller machines I decided I had to learn TIG because I wanted to mainly start working with aluminum on my car build but I didn't want to spend $4000 for a Miller Dynasty 200 and I didn't want to get a Diversion which I felt I could outgrow quickly. I've been looking at various low cost inverter TIG welders for the past year and have really noticed these imported inverters are just as good as any high end american made in terms of weld quality (can't speak for the durability and support of some of these machines). I mainly had set my eyes on the Everlast machines, but I decided to get this machine after watching several videos of this welder featured on youtube by Mr Tig and Kevin Caron. The features you get for the price just can't be matched. The machine arrived well packaged. I was able to test out both 110v and 220v with the TIG 4T and 2T modes both trigger and pedal. GREAT MACHINE!

I can't really believe that I got this quality of welder at such a low price. I am sure the price will rise a good amount after there are a quite a few sold. The package was put together very well and safe. Not anything was broken or damaged. I opened everything and inspected all the components before installing. WP17 Torch is good quality and components are fine as well. It is very easy to connect everything. I used the machine with the 220v - 115v adapter which is a good quality piece as well. The gas regulator works fine but is not great. I will be upgrading to a ball flow meter style regulator when I can. I tried it out first with the foot pedal set at 130 amps on DC. I was testing on some 1/8" plate (Mild Steel). I used the 1/16" thoriated tungsten included. The arc was incredibly smooth. It had plenty of power at only 140 amps to go through the steel. I also tinkered on some stainless steel as well and the amperage control was great! Great TIG Machine!!

I decided to take a chance on this welder after some research and let me tell you I am glad I did! It is great for the money and has performed flawlessly! I weld aluminum and 4130 on a regular basis and wanted a machine with AC balance control (was using a Miller Diversion 180) and this machine fits the bill perfectly. Arc stability is great and the controls are well laid out easy for a beginner or a seasoned welder. Welds aluminum as good if not better than a 6k dollar welder and is a perfect fit for the home/shop fabricator. I have about 20 hours on the machine at this time and have yet to find anything to complain about other than the foot pedal could really use some rubber feet to steady it on the floor. It performs as well as any big name machine and I have experience with owning three other brands before this one all of whic cost 4-5 times as much. The perfect welder for a hobby or light-duty fabricator

This welder is nearly perfect for anyone who fabricates with steel. (Because the unit is DC only, you can't weld aluminum with it.) With 160 amps of output, it can run any 1/8" electrode and have duty cycle to spare. For thicker material and less delicate jobs, you can stick-weld. For thinner material or more delicate jobs, you pull out the TIG torch. But the PA160-STH isn't a "jack-of-all-trades, master-of-none." It's a real TIG welder, with high-frequency start, gas solenoid, and pedal output control.Let's talk about arc quality. There's nothing to say, except that it's excellent. With older technology, there was substantial difference in arc quality between cheap, "buzzbox" style welders, and higher-end devices with more circuitry inside them. Nowadays, it seems like inverter welders can output a world-class arc, pretty much across the board. This is no exception. The arc is smooth and controllable, with precise heat output control. The only thing that might... 5/5 Joshua Bardwell (Kennesaw, GA United States) - See all my reviews, August 1, 2013

I bought this Plasma cutter for cutting sheet metal and various Rusty parts off my 76 Trans Am and I must say for the size of this little box and the cost, I'm very impressed. The unit is like they say plug in and play. I found it very easy to fit into my Hobart upright cart along with my Hobart Handler 140 (also an awesome welder) so if you're concerned about size, don't be, it's about the size of 2 six packs. Key features I like about it are that I don't need to use my air compressor on it, it has one built in. This way I don't have to adjust the regulator or any. Also, it only throws sparks about 1-2ft, I've heard horror stories of Plasma cutters throwing sparks for 4-6ft. I'm working in a small one car garage and I don't like having to worry about fires and such when working. Now as for cutting depth. The book states it can do 1/4in thick steel. I believe if you have perfect conditions it can do this with a pass or two. I have found in my own experience that it will at least cut... 5/5 Brian R (Reading, Pa) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Outstanding home tool

What truly sucks about this is that I waited too long to get it. All of the money spent on cut-off wheels, all of the time wasted at the grinding wheel fine tuning the parts... Bottom line; it will save you time, money, and provide you with that warm and fuzzy feeling we all strive for.The good:- Built-in compressor. Turn on and go.- Small, lightweight, easy to move around.- Looooong hoses.- Mine doesn't have the stiff ground cable somebody else complained about. Don't know if this is a recent change.- Fairly good resale value. The bad:- Make no mistake, this is a home unit. It will cut 1/4" steel, eventually... If you only cut thick pieces occasionally it will work fine. Clean cuts at 1/8" but still fairly slow.- Dinky guide, basically a folded thick wire. You will get good at using it but it will take time and in the process you will ruin some metal. If it had a better guide it would cut down the learning curve... 4/5 Abdon Gonzalez (Misawa Japan) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
