About this book
Today, with a bit of investment and practice, farmers can safely and efficiently make their own repairs to metal equipment and structures. Farm Welding begins with chapters on setting up a home shop specifically for farm-welding needs, as well as welding safety and the different welding processes. While the book is largely devoted to oxyacetylene gas and arc welding, the methods most often used for heavy-duty repairs and fabrication on the farm, wire-feed MIG welding for soft metals is also covered.

Probably a mistake to buy one of these. This was my first welder.- HEAVY- does not weld with electrodes larger than 1/16. Chokes on 3/32, no arc even at so called "100A" setting.- arc has a loud sound- arc easily interrupts- trips 15A breakers on any setting within 10 seconds. Every time. No matter how thin the electrodes are.Anything welded with this red box is easily separated back: a welded kid's bike frame fell apart on second use.Being seriously unhappy, I bought an inverter based welder. In my case, a 100A welder for about $170 (yellow), also sold on Amazon. My new Yellow welder:- LIGHT (3x lighter, two times smaller than the one you are looking at here)- truly takes 1/16 and 3/32 at 50Amp setting no problem, I mean you can just weld and notfight sticking electrodes- arc is quiet- arc is stable for a long time- does not trip 15A breakers... 1/5 12review "SF_BAY" (USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Rand Stick Welder 100 amp/120V/Arc/MMA/110V/110/120 (Tools & Hardware) Probably a mistake to buy one of these. This was my first welder.- HEAVY- does not weld with electrodes larger than 1/16. What a junk!

0 1/5 QWboy - See all my reviews This review is from: Rand Stick Welder 100 amp/120V/Arc/MMA/110V/110/120 (Tools & Hardware) Must to write a comment on this one. I bought mine elsewhere exact same welder. What a junk! Broke on my first use and I used to be a welder. I could not return mine so I looked inside: loose contacts, wires not even clamped together . Output regulator was stuck due to broken plastic. Dangerous Chinese fake. Stay away from this junk. Does not deserve a star. Would give minus 5 if I only could. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , October 25, 2014

    Excellent machine!

First off, I did not purchase this welder at amazon. I picked this up at my local Lowe's. Same machine. The welder itself is built very well, and it goes for a long time before having to cool down. It is also very small and portable; you can take it just about anywhere you want. For perspective, you could even take it on a carry-on bag on an airplane, it's that small. It is very rugged with its steel case. The only problem is that you can only produce so much current from a standard household outlet! Professional welding shops often have their own power generators and/or custom-wiring to their building. Because of this, it is critical that the work piece is as clean as possible-to get a steady current flow. When the work piece is clean, the amps are set right, the correct welding rod is used, and you have had enough practice unless you have already learned to weld like I had before I bought this, it produces surprisingly pretty welds for such a small machine. It did a really good job... 5/5 Lil' Johnny - See all my reviews This review is from: Campbell Hausfeld WS0990 115-Volt Stick Welder (Tools & Home Improvement) First off, I did not purchase this welder at amazon. I HAVE NEVER WELD BEFORE

0 5/5 NOTAWELDER - See all my reviews This review is from: Campbell Hausfeld WS0990 115-Volt Stick Welder (Tools & Home Improvement) I had mt atv plow rip apart on me last year. Figured the 100 would be a good try to save 300 for a new blade. I agree with the others, the sticks it came with would not strike 50% of the time. Frustrated I went to Youtube. After a 10 minutes of browsing I tried it again with the rods I bought ( 1/16 6013 )Welds were horrible, to start. 30 min later they were better. An hour later they resembled actual welds. Day 2 was better, I was able to take some 1/8 inch steel and weld it onto the back and sturdy it up.OverallI bought new Rods and a better maskPRACTICE!!! Two days and I am confident with throwing a couple pieces together and am sure it will hold.FAR BETTER THAN A NEW PLOW BLADE 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , October 26, 2013

    Welder Amazing

First welding is art and skill, both generally need practice.I have 20 amp breakers, 12gauge wiring and outlets rated for 20 amps. Check it all 4 times. i use a 12 gauge extention cord the coord on the welder is short and the leads aren't any longer. that being said, i spent hours working on high running about 2 lbs of rod, and no heat from the welder cord or extention cord. This and a 12 gauge extention cord makes a really compact welder that can get out and be used, the weight is about 20lbs, easy one handed. it's smaller and lighter than the tool box i lug around the house, so portablilty is excelent i regularly use it in the yard, driveway, garage. my lights and welder are on the same circuit, no issues so more or less the "high" setting is probly using around 15 amps, and the low less then 10. don't be afraid of having other things on the circuit.Get some 6013, and practice that on low, don't touch high. then when you can strike an arc consistantly gets... 5/5 James Stallings "Hacker and tinker" (Virginia) - See all my reviews, February 19, 2013

    Exceeds my expectations so far

This is an inverter stick welder that's tig capable, dual voltage 110v and 220v, puts out 140 amps, and has a digital amperage display. At work I only weld with Millers so I wasn't expecting much for a welder at this price and figured I could risk the 250 bucks. I live in Hawaii so I was happy it included free shipping and the item arrived fast in about 10 days. I opened the box and included were : welder, plastic case, nice solid electrode holder and ground clamp w/leads and connectors, tig torch with lead and hose, tig torch accessories (4 inch back cap, collets, ceramic cup), handy little wire brush/slag hammer all in one tool, welding mask with handle, and shade 10 filter lens. The welder had a 240v plug on it I had never seen before. It's similar to the outlet for my dryer but a bit smaller. I went to home depot and found the female plug for it and made a pigtail adapter so I could run it on a 110v/15amps. I plug it in and it turned on and I played with the amperage selector. Can't beat it for the price!

Back in the early eighties I walked into a fresh job and saw a bunch of fitters TIG welding pipe. They were walking the cup installing 6 inch schedule 20 316L pipe. I saw a bunch of 120 volt extension cords all over the place and all looked great. I asked the guy I was working with where the welding machines were as I didn't see any. He said they were hanging on the argon bottles. I gave a double take and there sure enough they were there. Little blue shoeboxes. They called them pocket welders. I just had to have one until I found out how much money they were. Ouch! Too much for me! Needless to say a lot of them evaporated, if you know what I mean. I have always wanted one since then and now they are indeed affordable. Oh yea, I have done my share of TIG welding in my day. They all seemed to work good at that. But! The early ones up until not long ago didn't do well with stick. That has all changed. Now, they will run stick. The cheaper ones, like this won't run all rods well. Light, and powerful, love to have it in my shop.

I tried the arc welding first and was pleasantly surprised at how well it would weld. The arc is smooth and steady, and had plenty of power. The welder runs on 120 or 220, and it does not need to be switched, it only needs an adapter to convert to a 220 outlet, and the machine comes with that adapter. When you turn the machine on, it detects how much voltage is present, and adjust the welder to it, and limits the welding power accordingly.I bought the gas bottle ,and went with all argon. This was my first attempt to TIG weld. My TIG welding was pretty bad for the first 5 or 6 tries, but then I got one that looked pretty good, So you do need to develop TIG welding skills, they are different from ARC welding skills, and take more practice than ARC welding. This is a DC welder, so as far as TIG welding goes, it is not suitable to weld Aluminum. If you want to weld Aluminum, you’re going to need a welder that has A/C abilities, and the cost of that welder is going to be... 5/5 Amazon Customer "Gadgeteer" (Jensen Beach, Florida United States) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?)
