About this book
Today, with a bit of investment and practice, farmers can safely and efficiently make their own repairs to metal equipment and structures. Farm Welding begins with chapters on setting up a home shop specifically for farm-welding needs, as well as welding safety and the different welding processes. While the book is largely devoted to oxyacetylene gas and arc welding, the methods most often used for heavy-duty repairs and fabrication on the farm, wire-feed MIG welding for soft metals is also covered.

0 5/5 Carey Netherton - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Pro-Grade Ultra-Portable 100-Amp Electric Arc Welder - 110V (Misc.) I am a metal sculptor with twenty years of experience welding. I recently bought one of these machines on a whim. I needed a cheap way to weld parts together quickly. I did not know what to expect, but thought it worth a try. Without a doubt it was a great investment. I have used the unit quite a bit and have found it to be a real trooper. The one weakness I have found is that it has a short duty cycle. If I want to run a 2 foot long bead, where I am constantly going (at about 60amps) and burning through sticks, it will put itself in cooldown mode after about a foot. But I am cool with that and now know what it can and can't do. Just weld a bit and then step away for 5 mins. I really like the variable amp adjustment a lot- I can really fine tune things in to the way I want.A great addition to my studio without a doubt. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , May 18, 2011

    Excellent machine!

Forgive me for creating this monster of a review, but if it's worth doing, it's definitely worth overdoing.First off, I did not purchase this welder at amazon. I picked this up at my local Lowe's. Same machine. The welder itself is built very well, and it goes for a long time before having to cool down. It is also very small and portable; you can take it just about anywhere you want. For perspective, you could even take it on a carry-on bag on an airplane, it's that small. Its steel case gives it a hefty feel that I like in all of my tools. The only problem is that you can only produce so much current from a standard household outlet! Professional welding shops often have their own power generators and/or custom-wiring to their building. Because of this, it is critical that the work piece is as clean as possible--to get a steady, constant flow of current. When the work piece is clean, the amps are set right, the correct welding rod is used, and you have had enough practice... 5/5 Lil' Johnny - See all my reviews This review is from: Campbell Hausfeld WS0990 115-Volt Stick Welder (Tools & Home Improvement) Forgive me for creating this monster of a review, but if it's worth doing, it's definitely worth overdoing.First off, I did not purchase this welder at amazon. Welder Amazing

First welding is art and skill, both generally need practice.I have 20 amp breakers, 12gauge wiring and outlets rated for 20 amps. Check it all 4 times. i use a 12 gauge extention cord the coord on the welder is short and the leads aren't any longer. that being said, i spent hours working on high running about 2 lbs of rod, and no heat from the welder cord or extention cord. This and a 12 gauge extention cord makes a really compact welder that can get out and be used, the weight is about 20lbs, easy one handed. it's smaller and lighter than the tool box i lug around the house, so portablilty is excelent i regularly use it in the yard, driveway, garage. my lights and welder are on the same circuit, no issues so more or less the "high" setting is probly using around 15 amps, and the low less then 10. don't be afraid of having other things on the circuit.Get some 6013, and practice that on low, don't touch high. then when you can strike an arc consistantly gets... 5/5 James Stallings "Hacker and tinker" (Virginia) - See all my reviews, February 19, 2013

Figured the 100 would be a good try to save 300 for a new blade. I agree with the others, the sticks it came with would not strike 50% of the time. Frustrated I went to Youtube. After a 10 minutes of browsing I tried it again with the rods I bought ( 1/16 6013 )Welds were horrible, to start. 30 min later they were better. An hour later they resembled actual welds. Day 2 was better, I was able to take some 1/8 inch steel and weld it onto the back and sturdy it up.OverallI bought new Rods and a better maskPRACTICE!!! It is a nice wleding machine

Just received and used this welding machine. It worked as advertised. It may not be powerful enough for big jobs, but it’s excellent to perform most welding jobs around the house. And the price is just right. One important detail…the electrical input wire does not come with a plug, neither 120 nor 240 volts. I hooked it up temporarily to the electrical panel using a 2-wire cable attached to a double pole breaker. Also note that the welding machine has a European wire; blue (neutral), green/yellow (ground) and brown (hot)….it’s single-phase.Anyway, if you order this welding machine, save a trip to the store and order a plug at the same time. Its dual voltage, meaning you can plug it in to a 120 volt or 240 volt circuit, so select the plug according to your needs. If you think you’ll be using the machine with an extension cord, then a 120 volt plug may be the most practical as you move the machine around the house. Also, a 120 volt... 5/5 F. Disappointing. Arrived in beaten-up condition.

I just received my welder today. I wanted one of these for a couple of years, and decided to order this version over the smaller 100 amp units. I'm only planning to use this with 110V instead of 220V, but I felt that if I ever encountered a heavier task I could switch out the plug and tackle it. I also assumed that the unit would be more robust to handle the 220V.The box was super heavy and I cut away the outer shipping carton. The inner box was totally destroyed during shipping, with all the loose little screws and bolts all over the bottom of the box, mixed in with the smashed Styrofoam. The red casing was bent all around the bottom, but it's very thin and flexible, so I just grabbed it with my fingers and bent it straight again. I attached the wheels (each is held onto the single axle with 2 spring clips) and the carry handle. There are 2 plastic feet that go under the front of the welder. The face shield is worthless, but I didn't plan on using it since I... 1/5 William Archer - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Great welder, amp readings took a bit to get used to.

I unloaded an old Miller Thunderbolt AC/DC welder for this. I was glad to see the boat anchor go. This machine is so much lighter, strikes an arc easier, and has a smoother arc. I have welded with 6011, 7014, and 7018 rods so far. The display seems a little "hot" for the amperages I am used to, however the company says this is normal for an inverter with adaptive arc force. For example, I am running 1/8" 7018 rods at about 85-90 amps, whereas I used to run them at about 120 on my old machine. I haven't tried 6010 rods yet, but it does a great job running 6011 rods in the "6010" port. I have had no problem running 5/32" rods with this machine. It actually runs so hot I think that I could run 3/16" rods with no problem, although I haven't tried that yet. As smooth as this machine is, I have moved away from my mig welder a bit. Basically for anything thicker than 1/4", I now stick weld it. Great little welder within its limitations.

Great little welder for welding thin sheet metal. If you're expecting to weld anything thicker than 1/8" steel, don't be surprised at the lack of performance. All 110v transformer based stick machines lack "top performance" abilities. Depending on one's own skill level, 3/16" thick steel is doable with the right electrode. I don't think this welder is for the beginner, just learning how to stick weld. If you want to "plug-n-play" right out of the box and you have very little stick welding experience under your belt, then you should go buy a flux-core wire welder instead and preferably in 220 volts. Stick welding is more difficult to master than mig or flux core wire welding. I bought this little machine because I have an extensive background with stick welding and I know that a 110 volt machine can be difficult to strike an arc initially. This machine produces a low OCV, so striking an arc is more difficult than compared to a Lincoln AC-225 class arc... 5/5 CombatWeldor (Maine) - See all my reviews This review is from: Forney 301 Arc Welder 95FI-A, 120-Volt, 95-Amp (Tools & Home Improvement) Great little welder for welding thin sheet metal. This review is from: Forney 301 Arc Welder 95FI-A, 120-Volt, 95-Amp (Tools & Home Improvement) The Welder had damage from shipping but I decided to give it a try. It seemed to work but not very well. I plugged it in to a regular circuit and gave it a go. On 95 amps It would hardly burn the electrodes that came with the kit. I went to the store and bought some 1/16 6010 rods which it burnt just fine at a lower amperage. I then installed a 20 amp dedicated plug in the garage which did not help the situation. I know this unit is small and meant for only light duty work but I could not seem to make this unit work for me. I have since upgraded to the Longevity Stickweld 140 and I can say its been a night and day difference. The longevity will push 1/8 rods at 90 amps no problem. For just about 50 bucks more its far more capable. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , April 1, 2013

    Great for around the farm.

Back in the day, I went to welding school. So even though I’m a grandmother, I do know how to stick weld. However, I don’t remember how all the amperage works.I got this mainly for small repair work around the house. I have a bed frame and a metal piece on my fence that needed to be fixed, so testing was a breeze. I did overhead welding the best and I’m mad I could not find anything tall to weld, but I will find something.First, the box comes with all the things you need to start a small job, except gloves. Thirty years later, I still have my leather gauntlets! (I’ve been using them to move around cacti all these years and I never had the heart to throw them away). Anyway, the mask is easy to put together, a little small, and has a colored safety lens and a clear glass lens. I did not see a plastic lens guard. There is a small slag brush that you may have to replace with a larger one, depending on the project. When I saw this item, I... 5/5 Brave Warrior "Brave Warrior" (Alabama, USA) - See all my reviews, November 14, 2014

It works but... how do I adjust it?

So between ChuckE2009 and weldingTipsAndTricks on youtube, I've managed to finagle my way into the world of welding. I received this welder for Christmas thinking it would be exactly what I'm looking for but after more research there are a couple things about this welder to note:1) Cables (ground, electrode clamp) are not removable/replaceable/extendable. This doesn't seem like a big deal to me now as I've only tackled two small projects and practiced a ton but I can see how this might be an issue in the near future if I plan some bigger projects.2) No amperage indicator or adjustment. This is already a big deal. Without having adjustable amperage, it's hard to determine if the box is running too hot or too cold. The experienced welder can probably tell by looking at the welds but to a beginner, it's impossible to know without being able to change the amperage to experiment and find out. Those things being said, there are plenty of positives about... 4/5 r3t1awr3yd - See all my reviews This review is from: Century AC-120 Stick Welder, 50-90 amp Output, 120V Input (Misc.) I never held a welder so I do not know the difference but I will say this welder is very easy to use

0 3/5 Michael - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Century AC-120 Stick Welder, 50-90 amp Output, 120V Input (Misc.) My 3 start rating may change later once I get the hang of working with this welder. I plan on doing small jobs around the house and will give it another rate at a later date. Unit arrived early and in goiod shape. The sticks it came with does splatter a lot as mentioned in prevous ratings. I never held a welder so I do not know the difference but I will say this welder is very easy to use. I am watching a lot of videos for tips on youtube. So far I did weld two pieces together after going through 6 or so sticks. Stay tuned... 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , December 14, 2014

    Just Delivered update.

My welder was delivered today. It was packed with styrofoam and looked like it was properly handled, this is important because inverter welders are a little more sensitive to mishandling than transformer welders. It came with the tig torch, collets, stinger, a nice ground clamp with copper contacts and the 240-120 pigtail conversion to plug it into a household outlet, all packed in a briefcase-like container. They also throw in a cheap mask and chipping hammer. The only things missing that I expected were a fitting for the tig torch to connect to my flow meter and some tungsten for the tig torch. These will be easy to find at my welding supplier. Unit is small and lightweight and includes carry strap. I am not a pro but I have experience mig welding and this will be used for learning stick and lift Tig. I gave five stars because of the value of all included components and speed of delivery. I spoke with seller directly and they have a 30 day money back guarantee and a 1 year... 5/5 Jeffrey M. Butler "Jeff" (Brooklyn) - See all my reviews, April 1, 2015

    AMAZING!!

0 5/5 Bryan - See all my reviews This review is from: LOTOS TIG140 140amp DC TIG/Stick TIG Welder Dual Voltage (Automotive) I recently purchased this item and I am more than satisfied with the purchase. It arrived promptly a couple of days after my order and I used it immediately. It's very light weight and easy to use. I'm actually quite impressed with this, especially with the fact that it contained a tig torch as well which can be pretty expensive by itself. I've used it on several occasions and have yet to come across a single issue. This welder is definitely worth the buy and the warranty along with the 30 day money back guarantee were the cherries to top the sundae. Overall I'd highly recommend this product. You won't be disappointed. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , May 1, 2015

    small yet powerful welder.

0 5/5 xiaoxiao zhao - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: LOTOS TIG140 140amp DC TIG/Stick TIG Welder Dual Voltage (Automotive) I received my first tig welding machine yesterday and tried the machine. The overall performance is much better than I imagined. I welded muffler together and some machinery at work. Everything works fine. BTW, I tried 110V settings, the machine has enough power even under 110v. I will try the arc setting, and update later.SteveC 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , May 10, 2015
